2 Questions Every Songwriter Should Be Able to Answer

2 Questions Every Songwriter Should Be Able to Answer Suzy S. Not sure where to start when it comes to writing songs? Check out these songwriting tips from Austin, TX teacher  Gfire M... I started writing songs fairly early on at age 11, but I never thought about songwriting technique until later, when I studied with teachers from Berklee College, and in Los Angeles and Nashville. I now have songs that have been played on more than 200 radio and television programs around the world, including UnderCurrents, a syndicated program that airs on more than 65 NPR radio stations in the United States. It was a natural progression to teach what I know about songwriting to my singing, piano, and guitar students who wanted to express themselves in an individual manner. Here are two questions to ask yourself before writing a song: 1. What is your song about? It is best if you can express the idea you want to convey in a single sentence. Songs are very short, averaging 3-5 minutes in length, so you really want to stay focused on one idea. Some examples are: “You and I will never, ever, ever, get back together,” “What doesnt kill you makes you stronger,” and “Your love lifts me higher and higher.” Write your sentence on the top of the page you are using to write your new song! 2. What song formula are you going to follow? If you study songs that you like, you will notice that there are formulas that a lot of songs follow. One common formula is verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus.   (Check out Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” for an example of this formula.) So if we call the verse “A,” the chorus “B,” and the bridge “C,” the formula would be called A, B, A, B, C, B. Start with this formula for your first song all you really have to write is two verses, a chorus, and a bridge. Other Songwriting Tips to Consider If your first song isnt as good as the ones you hear on the radio, dont worry   it’s your first song! If you write a new song every month this year, you’ll have 12 songs and you will get better and better at really expressing what you want to say and developing your songwriting voice. You should also study your favorite bands and songwriters analyze the structure of your favorite songs and then practice writing a song that follows that same structure. Again, the more you practice writing songs and I do recommend completing each song, whether you think it is any good or not the more youll refine your technique. Find a Songwriting Teacher A teacher can give you even more songwriting tips as you work on your songs. Just as you would take months or years of singing, guitar, or piano lessons, if you book lessons with a good songwriting teacher and invest a minimum of three months of lessons and practical work (i.e. write and finish one song per month), you will get better much faster than if you are on your own. You already are a unique person with plenty of stories and experiences to share. Now give yourself the chance to be the songwriter you always dreamed of being!! Gfire teaches music theory, opera voice, piano,  singing, and songwriting in Austin, TX. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music from  University of Maryland, as well as her  Master of the Science of Singing from  Ernest George White Society.  Learn more about Gfire here! How Can Arts Education Benefit Med Students

How Can Arts Education Benefit Med Students If youve been looking at medical schools recently, you may already know that many U.S. medical schools have begun encouraging some study of the arts and humanities in their curriculums. Though it may seem that being able to dissect great works of literature is less important than being able to carefully dissect a human cadaver in anatomy, medical schools now argue that an arts education teaches students to treat their whole patients, taking into account the patients socioeconomic and cultural contexts when deciding upon courses of treatment. If youre headed to medical school, consider taking some arts classes to better prepare you for the human element of medicine. Check out these reasons that an arts education can be useful to you as a medical student: [RELATED: How to Decide Which Medical School is Right for You] 1. Much of medicine is analytical, and arts disciplines teach you to approach a problem from critical angles other than the traditional scientific ones From your science classes, youve probably learned to view and solve medical problems in a biological way. You understand that you cure appendicitis with an appendectomy and cholecystitis with a cholecystectomybut the arts can teach you to solve medical problems not just from a biological viewpoint, but through emotional, social, economic, and other viewpoints as well. The arts can train you to understand how a patient may have acquired a condition and what can be done in addition to traditional medical intervention that would help the patients condition improve. 2. An arts education familiarizes you with the context in which illness occurs The traditional medical model saw medical problems as occurring within a narrow biological cause-effect pattern. However, an arts education can help you understand that illness also occurs in the broader context of a persons emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, and economic life. Whereas the traditional scientific model will recognize that a person develops a tumor from abnormal cells, the arts allows you to recognize the lifestyle factors that may have led to the growth of those cells. This perspective may also allow you to treat not only the cells, but perhaps to teach the patient to make lifestyle changes that will prevent abnormal growth in the future. Illness does not simply occur in a biological vacuum, and understanding the arts can help you consider the multitude of factors that are relevant in a patients disease progression, as well as the medical treatment regimen. [RELATED: 3 Tips to Succeed in Medical School] 3. The arts may help connect you with the emotional aspect of medicine, allowing you to better sympathize with patients Its easy throughout medical education to reduce patients to their illnesses, but a background in the arts can help prevent you from doing so. The term bedside manner has long been thrown around in medicine, but recently, medical schools have started to give more weight to the development of bedside manner in students. The arts, whether critically analyzing literature or experiencing different forms of dance, can help connect you to the emotions of the human condition and help inform how you see patients. In an arts context, no longer is there just a broken leg in bed number three, but rather, a man who fell down his porch stairs this morning and is now in deep pain due to a fracture. The arts can help you cultivate deeper emotion and develop a strong bedside manner, which is indispensable for a future medical practitioner.

Online Rational Expression Solver Tutors

Online Rational Expression Solver Tutors Rational expression is an algebraic expression written in p(x) / q(x) form. The condition for the rational expression is the denominator cannot be equal to zero i.e. q(x) 0. There are many question related to simplifying given rational expressions. The rational equation can be solved and simplified using different mathematical properties such as multiplicative property, associative property, additive inverse multiplicative inverse and many more. Example 1: Find the answer for the expression x /5 + 2 x/5 + 3 x/5? The given question is on adding rational expressions. This question contains the adding the expressions with same denominator 5 Adding the numerators of the expressions gives (x+ 2 x+ 3 x)/5 = 6 x/5 This makes the solution equal to x/5 + 2x/5 + 3 x/5 = 6 x/5 Example 2: Find the answer for the expression (3 x/ 5) + (x /3) (4 x/15)? The given question is on adding and subtracting rational expression. This question contains the adding and subtracting with different denominator. The common denominator need to be found for 3, 5 and 15. The least Common denominator LCM = 15. Adding the first two terms (3 x/ 5) + (x /3) = (9 x/ 15) + (5x /15) =14 x/15 Now subtract 3 x/15 from the previous answer 14 x/5 (14 x/ 15) - (4 x /15) = (10 x/ 15) Further simplifying the fraction gives 2 x/3. This makes the solution equal to (3 x/ 5) + (x /3) (4 x/15) = 2 x/3.

ChaptersBarter EconomiesMonetary EconomiesCapitalism and Economic HistoryCommunist EconomiesSome Origins of Common Economic InstitutionsWhen you decide to study social science, you will probably need to decide what to specialise in. If you want to become a historian, you will need to decide what aspect of history you want to study. You can focus on a specific era, or you can decide to focus on a special aspect of cultural history.Economic history is one interesting aspect - how past societies assigned value to the world around them and found ways to trade and increase their perception of wealth. Here on Superprof is a little overview of the types of historical economies you might come to know as an undergraduate of Economic History.country’s true wealth can be seen in trade.BanksThe first concept of banking emerged when merchants would give grain loans to farmers. In Renaissance Italy, the rise of the merchant empires meant that people needed loans on risky enterprises and ready acc ess to money far from home.Moneylenders invented interest rates - and were some of the first bankers. Photo credit: jean louis mazieres on Foter.comIn the seventeenth and eighteenth century, many merchants stored their gold with the goldsmiths of London - they would store the gold in their private vaults for a fee and issue receipts that could only be redeemed by the person they were issued to. Eventually, they would issue loans on the money with the permission of the owner (for interest) and issue promissory notes on loan capital that could be passed on to others - an early form of paper money.Britain was a pioneer in banking reform, including the first banknotes from the Bank of England; with the first overdraft facility at the Royal Bank of Scotland. Actionable Tips on How to Improve Your Career - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Actionable Tips on How to Improve Your Career - Introvert Whisperer Actionable Tips on How to Improve Your Career So, you are working in an entry-level position, waiting for a raise, or having to cope with the toxic office environment? Things are not going the way you intended, but do not fret. Career is not something that just happens to you, like a random string of life events. It must actively be nurtured and worked on. Therefore, go through your past experiences, assess the present situation, and then look ahead to future action. There are several tactics to ponder and they can take you in radically different directions. They have one thing in common, though: they promise to boost your income and level of professional fulfillment at the same time. A roadmap for success In a nutshell, you have to know where you are right now and where you would like to be in a few months or years time. So, use a broad lens to observe your personal and professional life. In particular, take your time evaluating a trajectory of your career. Be honest about where your dissatisfaction stems from and identify where the room for improvement is. Take into account your interests, skills, ambitions, personality, strong suits, and financial situation. Come up with a plan and set clear, tangible objectives for 2018 and beyond. First off, note that side gigs are a smart tactic, especially if you need to supplement your main income. However, it is also possible to find something that could open new doors in your professional life. To pull it off, you should start a side hustle based on the work skills and experience you already possess. You may be able to make a semi-pivot in career and secure a new, more lucrative job. At the very least, you will have extra cash on hand and expand your business network. Moreover, these gigs can also be excellent testing ground for launching your own entrepreneurial idea and project. Furthermore, keep an eye on seasonal work and part-time job openings. They may be just what you need to alleviate monthly budget fluctuations. But, there could be more in store for you, provided that you avoid things like commission-based selling gigs. For instance, let us say you manage to get a customer service job. You start working with people on a regular basis and that helps you develop soft skills, improve emotional intelligence, and learn to handle managerial duties. This brings us to our next pointâ€" investing in yourself. The art of honing skills Another course of action involves diligently working on your potential. So, commit to taking your skills to the next level. Bear in mind that specialization is the key to setting yourself apart from cohorts of other pros in the market. And once you acquire or improve a new skill, you can make good use of it on a freelance basis. Doing the same thing you do full-time could be a win-win for you, but there could be one obstacle. Namely, check if your employer has “non-compete clauses” that could prevent you from utilizing your talents outside the office. I any event, you have a plethora of resources at your disposal for improving skills. There have never been so many online learning hubs teeming with free and paid courses. If you were always struggling with numbers, why not obtain a diploma of accounting?  Upgrade your resume and accomplishment to rise above the competition. There are some alternative tactics as well, such as volunteering in exchange to free classes and educative resources. For example, MBA programs and major companies tend to offer improve-based workshops for public speaking. Get ahead of the game While you’re at it, develop a deeper understanding of your industry sector and occupation. Keep up the pace with emerging trends and game-changing technologies. You want to make certain your skill set is future-proof. The ultimate strategy is simple: you barter your in-demand skills and knowledge to find leads and then work on converting them to clients. In the process, you get to know how it is to negotiate and fight for your own skin. This is a valuable lesson hard to draw from other people’s experiences. But, it is also a process of trial and error, so do not be discouraged by initial setbacks. Finally, those who are happy with their job for the most part, but feel that they are advancing at a sluggish pace, might just need to push harder. Get to know what opportunities for career advancement, growth, and promotion exist within the company. Ask about the official protocol on overtime and set yourself up to take on additional projects. Be ready to jump to the occasion when the higher-ups decide to delegate tasks. Do not hesitate to venture outside your department and comfort zone. Going an extra mile could really help you move ahead in the current company. Climbing up the career ladder There are few things as unsettling as that dreaded feeling of being stuck in the same 9-5 loop. To level up in career, you cannot just sit and wait for opportunities to come your way. Embrace a proactive approach and keep an open mind. Know where your strengths and weaknesses are. Explore the avenues in your company and then look beyond its corridors. Complement your full-time job with a nice side hustle that you actually enjoy. Do not hesitate to forge your own path to financial independence and prosperity. All in all, you have to stand up for yourself and take responsibility for your actions. ISABEL FRANK WILLIAM

In fact, you could argue that this type of Latin dance is one of the most famous Argentinian exports! There are a number of socio-economic reasons for tango dancing. At the end of the 19th century, Argentina freed its slaves. At the same time, immigrants from Italy, France, Spain, and Germany made their way to the country. These immigrants spurred on Argentina’s economic growth and the capital, Buenos Aires, was hom e to many immigrant communities. At the time, habanera and guajira were the most popular styles of music. These styles were inspired by both Latin American and African musical styles. The inhabitants of Buenos Aires weren’t always housed in the best of conditions. The poorest immigrants lived in dilapidated buildings with former slaves in La Boca neighbourhood, near the port.Argentina is the birthplace of both tango music and tango dancing. (Source: werner22brigitte)The blend of musical styles led to the creation of “La Milonga” in La Boca. This would later be known as tango. At the time, it was mainly men who danced since there weren’t that many women around to embrace these new dance styles on the dance floor.Men developed various steps and would dance with each other or with prostitutes, which certainly didn’t help the discipline’s reputation. At the start of the 20th century, a few songs made their way as far as Paris. Oddly, they were via word-of-mouth rather than writ ten music. “Lunfardo”, a special language, was created.  Many of the words are still used in the Argentine capital today.Tango gained a reputation in Paris and was popular amongst some of the bourgeois. Its success in the French capital helped the discipline to become more respected.Instruments such as the violin, piano, and the bandoneon were added to pieces that usually included just guitars and drums. The main themes covered included the melancholy and sadness of the European immigrants who’d travelled to Argentina to start their new lives. The discipline changed over time. However, today it’s mainly known as a discipline for couples given its sensual nature rather than for its origins in urban neighbourhoods.Discover also the history of the Viennese Waltz!Tango: ImprovisationArgentine tango is often seen as a difficult discipline.  This is because there’s a lot of improvisation unlike styles like salsa, pasodoble, rhumba, the waltz, etc.If you take lessons in Buenos Air es, you’ll probably be surprised how often the teacher will let you just do your own thing. You just need to know the basic steps and then let yourself be guided.  Of course, this is only true for women as the men have to lead their partner. That said, it isn’t easy for women as they have to be able to perform some incredible footwork.  In the milongas, where tango is performed, you’ll learn to improvise as early as your first lesson.Originally, it was just the men who danced the tango. (Source: werner22brigitte)Traditionally, the men ask the women to dance. A man needs to catch a woman’s gaze. This whole procedure is done without uttering a word. Of course, this isn’t always the case but most Milongas around the world will respect this process.Once on the dancefloor, the couple get into position. The woman will put her weight on the man’s shoulder, who will act as the counterweight. The man leads the woman by lightly pushing or moving towards her.All these gestures are l ight and discreet, making tango technique very difficult to understand for those watching. So how do you know what you should be doing? There are a few basic steps that both the man and the woman need to remember. Once you’ve learnt these, each person needs to decide where and when to use them.  That’s why tango requires a lot of chemistry between partners as well as a good understanding of the music.Sometimes, you have to improvise. This is when the woman can express herself by caressing her leg against her partner, for example. The music plays a huge role in terms of rhythm and the steps you’ll do. You need to listen out for pauses, etc.Did you know that the Argentine Tango is considered one of the most sensual couples dances?  How Can You Learn the Tango as a Couple? The best way to learn the tango is to practice.  The same is true for styles like dancehall, salsa, Merengue, Bachata, rumba, swing, Zumba, Kizomba, mambo, tap, Oriental, rock ‘n’ roll, flamenco, modern Jazz, ballet, etc., but especially for disciplines where you dance as a couple.Don’t hesitate to dance with someone who’s better than you.  By dancing with a partner who’s better than you, you’ll learn a lot. Especially if you let them guide you. Don’t be scared of making mistakes, either. Tango is all about improvisation and most people won’t even notice if you make a mistake.Footwork is absolutely key when dancing the tango. (Source: Bernard-Verougstraete)If you start learning the tango as a couple and both of you are beginners, you’ll probably not learn as quickly if you stick together in your classes.  It’s probably better for each of you to learn the basics apart and then move ahead together.Discover more tips for learning couples' dancing!  So where can you find couples’ tango lessons? You can always visit a dance school, academy, or studio for courses, group lessons, private tutorials, weekly classes, intensive classes, etc. You can enrol at the start of the year b ut if you’ve missed the deadline, you’ll have to probably wait an entire year. You can also get private tutorials. This can be useful for couples with complicated timetables or schedules.  Additionally, you won’t have to loan your partner to another dancer. A private tutor can guide you both. You can also learn to dance in the comfort of your own home. There are online tutorials, DVDs, and books on tango. This can be more practical and affordable but you have to make sure that you’re paying particular attention as there’ll be no one there to correct you if you get it wrong. It’s a good idea to attend tango nights in milongas. Just like salsa evenings, there are often free tango lessons at the start of the evening.  This could be your chance to practise what you’ve learnt on the dancefloor. Why not head to Argentina?Of course, you’ll have to save up. However, it’s a great way to learn more about Argentine culture, tango, its history, and try a few empanadas.  Tango cla sses, tutorials, or evenings are a great way to learn how to dance the tango. Why Learn to Dance the Tango as a Couple? Why should you learn to dance the tango with your partner rather than on your own?Organising dance classes london for two people can sometimes be difficult. You need to find a time when both of you are free. You have to listen to your partner when you dance the tango. (Source: fsHH)However, there are plenty of benefits to learning the tango as a couple as it can bring couples closer together. The tango requires couples to communicate without saying a word. It’s all about your body language and both partners need to be on the same wavelength to get it right.  This is why each dancer tends to have a partner that they prefer dancing with. The two partners learn to listen to each other and communicate through gestures, an exercise which is beneficial for any couple.  As a sensual dance, the tango can relight any couple’s fire. Both men and women have to dress nicely to tango. This means you can both wear your best outfits.Making the most of time together is great for couples.  So if you would like to become a student of dance, are an absolute beginner looking for an authentic Argentino tango class, or just looking for someone to teach you a bit of choreography, have a look at some of the private lessons available from the passionate tutors on Superprof! If you're getting married, why not consider learning the tango for your first dance to spice things up?Or you might want to learn more about couples' dancing in general...

Accommodations for College Students with ADHD

Accommodations for College Students with ADHD For teens with ADHD, college acceptance represents a major milestone, and one that they worked very hard to achieve. Once the admissions offer has been accepted and the celebration has died down, its time to start thinking about how your teens needs will be met once college life begins. Academic accommodations are one tool that may help students with ADHD manage some of the impairments that make college more difficult. These accommodations wont guarantee success during college, but for some students with ADHD, they can be a very helpful piece of a more comprehensive plan. When parents and teens start looking into academic accommodations, they typically have a lot of questions and very few answers. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and answers to get you started on this journey. What documentation is needed to qualify for academic accommodations in college? Each college has its own process for determining which students qualify for accommodations (and the specific accommodations they are eligible to receive). So, its important to reach out to the college as soon as possible to find out about their specific requirements. In general, colleges require a recent psychoeducation or neuropsychological testing report that documents the ADHD diagnosis and/or any specific learning differences and impairments that would justify the requested accommodations. Typically, a letter from a pediatrician, psychiatrist, or psychologist will not suffice in the absence of detailed test results. I tried to get my teen an IEP when he was in middle school or high school, and the school said he didnt qualify. Does this mean he wont be able to get accommodations in college? College students can qualify for academic accommodations even if they were denied an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) earlier in their education. This is due in part to the fact that college students with ADHD are offered protections through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rather than the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that covers IEPs. Who should we talk to at the college about the accommodation process? There are many offices and professionals who assist students with ADHD on college campuses, and knowing who to contact first can be a challenge. Your best starting point is typically the Office of Disability Support Services, or the individual listed as the 504 or American Disabilities Act (ADA) coordinator at the institution. When should we start talking with the college about academic accommodations? The process of obtaining accommodations can be lengthy, and I always recommend that parents and students begin talking with the college as soon as they accept the admissions offer. What types of accommodations are available? Perhaps not surprisingly, the accommodations and services offered on college campuses can vary widely. Some campuses offer extensive services, and others only offer more basic accommodations. However, most colleges will at least offer the following: Testing accommodations (e.g. extended time, private testing room) Permission to record lectures and/or have a note-taker in class to capture content the student with ADHD may have missed Access to audio books Reduced course-load Course substitutions for typically required courses Should I expect my teen to complete the academic accommodation qualification process on their own? I want them to become more independent, but Im not sure theyll follow through without my help. The process of qualifying for college accommodations can be daunting, even for adults with years of experience. While its important to push your teen toward independence, now is not the time to have them go it alone. That said, your teen should be involved in the process every step of the way, and even take ownership of some of the smaller steps of the process if thats practical and feasible. ABOUT DR.
